Just a thought, but perhaps you should schedule a fridge cleaning more often then once a decade.

It's like th java garbage collector, you try and try but the fridge only gets cleaned when the time is right
|
|
Awesome. So the follow up to moving the ads to less intrusive places was to just make feature articles about them. Brilliant!

This looks like a Weird Science Experiment

That's nothing. One of my co-workers had a "burger in a can" on her desk for about a year.
Earlier this week, the botulism growing inside it expanded to the point that the can exploded. violently. There are photos somewhere, but they could never capture the smell. |

You tied a post about your sponsors to pictures of mold?
What's the encore, to kick each of their CEOs in the balls? |

I was about to say: this was an acceptable post, and a perfectly inoffensive way to get the ads served.
And then you went and ruined it with those photos. I don't want to see that. Who cares if some fatass slob can't be bothered to clean his fridge out more than once a decade? Jesus, show me more ads rather than that wank. |

I can observe similar things here in our office. In my opinion it’s pretty depressing that some people can’t seem to manage basic tasks like putting your used coffee cup into the empty dish washer every evening. Some of them even go through the trouble of filling it with water—just to let it stand around like that for days. As if that were any better.

Fridge cleaning and maintenance in general has always been kind of a difficult thing around my company. We had notes on the door that kept threatening that Friday afternoon clean-up was imminent, and all items *MUST* have names and dates on them.
The problem is that no one was specifically tasked with that job, and any eager soul who thought to attempt it was probably daunted by the fact that the fridge was typically stuffed full of food, etc. belonging to anonymous co-workers (there were very few of the mandatory names and dates) who might not be thrilled if someone threw away their lunch simply because they happened to have a particularly busy Friday afternoon. Eventually, some one bit the bullet, and one Moday morning, I came in an marvelled at the pristine shelves of the fridge. The notice on the door of the fridge included other interesting "rules" of fridge-sharing etiquete. One was something to the effect of "If you want a snack, please use the snack machine or eat only food you brought. Do not randomly take food from the fridge." That always made me laugh for 2 reasons. 1) Does anyone actually DO that? Maybe I'm naive, but I can't imagine people being nervy enough to eat other people's lunch simply because they want a snack. and 2) I think people overuse the term "random." I doubt many people just randomly grab food from the fridge to snack on...."I'm hungry; let's see what's in the cards for me today....oh crap! Ketchup again...why couldn't I have randomly chosen one of those doughnouts over there?" |

I thought spore was coming out later in the year.

You're new here. As for the article, just one word: Eeeeewwwwwww!!! |

Yet more proof of intelligent life on Mars. Not one spacecraft have returned any evidence of a mold-encrusted cup of [something that may have previoiusly been] yogurt.
|
|
But this green cafeteria plastic tray was sitting on the top of a shelf in our desk, idle, not even emitting the tiniest hint of a bad smell, not even the smallest noise.
Little did we know. One day, probably taken by the spring clean-up spirit, I decided to investigate. There was a grocery plastic bag, that after opening did not give any hint about the content. Let's just say it was gross and of indefinate color. The scaries part was that when I lifted the bag, the thing inside actually managed to eat through it, and was staarting to eat the cafeteria tray as well, which was made from epoxy resin. I did go to the biggest dumpster and put everything in it, hopping it would not go through the metal as well. |

Every morning I sit down at my desk, log in, and open the Daily WTF. Then I get out my breakfast (usually a bowl of fruit and a container of yogurt) and read the latest posts. So I'm sitting here eating my fruit and scrolling down through the mold collection. Yummy!
All right, let's show our appreciation for this site and help ol' Alex out, everyone. Go up there and click on each of those sponsor logos and spend a minute browsing their websites. |

A Real Man´s Food is supposed to crawl out of fridge on it´s own, or is supposed to stay and be eaten. Period. Oh, by the way, the thing (or maybe The Thing) on the first picture is corpse of the classic Giger´s facehugger? Or, more to the point, is it dead already? |

See then there's the fact that the Sharp Observer 'understand' English better than you. But anyway, we used to have this all the time at the old place I worked. Except it would be loaves of bread in their bags. Sometimes I did think about leaving them and seeing whether they would eventually wander off of their own accord. They didn't, they'd just sit there and smell... |

I have to admit, the last one in the series is pretty impressive. I don't think I've ever seen neon-blue mold before (then again, I don't keep expired food for over 3 years).

This would be true only if Alex was running fridge cleaning service ads, wouldn't it? Seriously, moron. If running a few ads helps keep this site affordable, so what? Don't like it? STFU and go elsewhere. Oh, and it's brillant, dumbass. Anyone who comes here often knows how to spell it correctly. |

We solved that problem. Everyone who uses the fridge is put on a list, and a rotating roster of people is assigned every other Friday to actually clean out the fridge.
Again, we solved that issue. Twice on the day before the fridge is to be cleaned, a reminder is sent to everyone via email that they need to make sure that things are labeled and dated or they'll be thrown out. On Friday, about an hour before the fridge will be cleaned, a reminder (via network message and email) is sent out again. When the scheduled time rolls around, anything not labeled and dated is thrown out. No exceptions, no excuses. No label and date, bin it. You forgot to label and date? Too bad. You didn't get there in time after the reminders? Too bad. Better luck next time; hope you pay attention then so it doesn't happen again.
Actually, it has happened here. Someone will go in to get their (at least supposedly) properly labeled and dated lunch only to find it missing. We had someone here (not sure who, but either they've left or gotten scared of getting caught) who used to steal food so badly that our management threatened to have a security camera placed in the kitchen to monitor the fridge. We do "staff lunches" frequently here; basically the old "pot luck" type meal where everyone brings in a dish, and a couple of the better cooks will prepare a couple of large main dishes. For example, we had two entire turkeys last Thanksgiving as the main entree, and everyone brought side dishes. Leftovers from these staff lunches are labeled and dated, and put in the fridge for a secondary (smaller) lunch the next day, so that everyone can benefit from them. Last Thanksgiving, someone stole an entire bag (probably 5+ pounds) of leftover turkey from the fridge the afternoon of the luncheon; it was discovered when the leftovers lunch was about to be set up the following day. It really ticks me off when people are uncouth enough to behave that way. Seriously, if they can't afford lunch they can just come see me; I'd rather buy them lunch on my dime than have them stealing from their co-workers. |
